Bug List
1. During move in days or going to a person's home for the first time, when I see a roach I immediately get scared and try to figure out a solution or simply not eat in the area. This bug exists because past home owners or the low maintenance of areas causes creatures to reside in places.
2. As a former Chick-fil-a worker, great service has always been a priority. It bugs me when restaurants like McDonalds and Popeyes doesn't greet customers, show hospitality or go out of their way to give customers the best experience. This bug exists because of different methods of training. Chick-fil-a trains members through a mandatory course and contract, while other restaurants loosely train employees.
3. Spending money on a bad service and not speaking up about it bugs me. I once went to a brow threading place to get my brows done after making it clear that I only wanted a cleaning. When the service was done, the threader made my brows super thin and not how I wanted them. This bug exists because sometimes humans lack understanding or need further explanations prior to beginning a task.
4. Freezing spaces bug me. As a south Florida native, I am used to heat but also used to being in a home that was no less than 75 degrees at the coldest. Living with new roommates who think 70 degrees is hot, makes living very challenging. This bug exists because people are raise in different environments, settings and temperatures so they will only practice what is second nature to them.
5. Slow walkers bug me. When I am trying to get to a class that takes 8 minutes to walk to, and a crowd dull of people in front of me are causing the walk to turn to 15 minutes, I immediately begin to worry. This bug exists because people are distracted easily by other people around them or they simply don't have to be at a specific place in a given moment according to their daily schedule.
6. I once had a professor who not only had an accent that was difficult to understand, but also spoke slow and yawned often which made me tired. Boring professors bug me. This bug exists because some professors don't find it necessary to entice students nor do they add entertaining efforts to their teaching. This simply just teach.
7. Nervous students freaking out before an exam bugs me. After being in my first business class centered on business management with over 1,000 students, I remember going to exams at night in huge rooms where all I heard prior to the exam was "OMG I didn't study," or "I am literally going to fail," or "this is about to be so hard and I studied only for two days." This bug exists because students tend to procrastinate and their energy spreads on the day of the exam.
8. Slow drivers bug me. When getting ready to turn in the turning lane, watching the green light quickly turn red because a few cars chose to drive like snails to their destination is a bad feeling. This bug exists because sometimes drivers are elders who simply cannot drive quickly, people being distracted by their phones or passengers or a handicapped person who can only go a certain distance at a given time.
9. Getting asked a simple question that can easily be answered a simpler way bugs me. For instance, I was asked how to get in contact with the library on campus by a roommate. All the Roomate had to do was google a question. This bug exists because people tend to not want to use their resources at hand, are too lazy to figure out solutions to a problem, or they are completely new to an environment or process.
10. Loud sounds while I'm being productive bugs me. While studying for an exam or test, I love to have complete silence or I won't be able to concentrate and will have to change locations. This bug exists because distractions are always going on in the world around us. If people were to live in a Manhattan apartment, they would face loud noises and sounds while trying to be productive. Concentration requires silence for some people, while others become used to distractions.
11. Going through more than two interviews for one job bugs me. During an interview for a Fortune 500 company, I was able to move on to the second round of interviews but I was not able to receive the position because of my nervousness. This bug exists because employers try to seek out who best fits their company and when multiple candidates are up for the same position, they must narrow down their top choices.
12. Buying food to cook but still spending money at restaurants bugs me. On Sunday's I tend to go to Sam's Club and Walmart to purchase groceries and cook them for the rest of the week. At times, when I forget to bring lunch and stay on campus for long hours, I am forced to purchase lunch at my nearest restaurant. This bug exists because students tend to either get lazy to bring lunch or get tired of eating the same meal each day. This bug also exists because of the wide variety of access to meals on college campuses.
13. Rude and inconsiderate people bug me. During an executive board meeting for a show I helped direct, my opinion about a promotional video was not taken into consideration and the video ended up being horrible and difficult to understand. This bug exists because some people see their perspectives as the only perspective and not willing to work as a team.
14. Having to throw trash away in the dumpster bugs me. I live about one mile away from my dumpster so I often have to take garbage out by putting bags on top of my car. This bug exists because many apartment or housing complexes do not feel the need to make trash areas and dumpsters easily accessible for residents. It also exists so trash services can easily pick up waste in one area instead of multiple.
15. Driving long distances bugs me. As a south Florida native, I often have to drive from Gainesville to West Palm Beach, Florida which is approximately 4 hours. Every drive is different because I'm exposed to seeing new accidents and experiencing different weather changes. This bug exists because of the need to travel and see loved ones or enjoy a vacation.
16. Having to get car service because of an accident bugs me. While driving I stopped at a red light and another driver hit my bumper out of no where. I was forced to get her insurance information and workout ways to have her pay for the bumper damages. This bug exists because drivers tend to be distracted while driving. They are either distracted by how their life is going, stressed out, or by an issue at hand.
17. I got my MacBook Pro's Touch Bar fixed because I dropped it and it came back unfixed. I had to send it back to the factory to get fixed and this isn't the first time a technological advice has caused me to do this. This bug exists because although technology is life-changing, once impact hits it, it is no longer in its same condition. It takes money to upkeep technology and the same goes for humans.
18. People ask me to create content for them but they aren't ever willing to pay the price I propose. I create flyers for on campus organizations and I often get people trying to ask for lower prices. This bug exists because most people in this world who often times are not rich, will always try to bargain prices. People who know they need more money, often try to spend less money.
19. Having roommates that overuse utilities bugs me. When our electricity bill comes, it is split equally among the four of us and technically three of us are paying for one person who constantly leaves lights on, the fan on and the TV. This bug exists because not everyone was raised the same way. Some people grew up not having to turn off lights nor having to prioritize conserving energy.
20. Having money to buy new clothes but not prioritizing what I'm going to eat for the next week bugs me. This bug exists because young people often spend money sporadically without thinking in the future.
REFLECTION
Through the process of coming up with this list, my main challenge was having to think back and reflect on when and how a bug occurred in my life. It was difficult because I literally had to replay in my head instances when a bug happened, who was involved, and how I could put myself in their shoes. Often times as humans, it's difficult for us to consider others perspectives. This assignment helped me see the importance of putting myself in someone's shoes and thinking of all the possibilities as to why or what caused a situation to happen.
